The San Bushman children at our Clever Cubs school have been lucky enough to receive coaching by Cricket Namibia who have partnered with UNICEF to introduce the concept of a healthy living lifestyle and choices through sport and development.
In May, Hilma took 11 girls - Anna, Christina, Menencia, Dina P, Dina A, Willemina, Betha, Bettie, Martha and Maria, to Windhoek Technical High School one Saturday for a cricket coaching day. The girls spent the day receiving cricket coaching and played in teams with lots of other girls from different schools. There were 3 ladies from the Namibian National Cricket team there on the day and our lucky Clever Cubs got to play with them!
Cricket Namibia then visited us here at N/a'an ku se for a session with the rest of the children here and at the end of the month, our N/a'an ku se Clever Cub team will compete against other schools in a huge cricket competition. Good luck!
The aim of the initiative is not only to develop the children's sporting skills but to also learn skills such as responsibility, discipline, fair play, teamwork and leadership. The idea is that learning these principles will help them make smart decisions in life when it comes to peer pressure, sex, alcohol and other issues affecting young people.
