Read all about the Bushman Olympic and the latest updates on our Clever Cubs who have all just returned from their Easter Holidays:

Bushman Olympics

On Saturday 16th April, just before the children went away for their Easter Holidays, we held our annual Bushman Olympics here at N/a'an ku se. All the children got really into the spirit of the games and there were definitely signs of some budding athletes amongst our Clever Cubs....perhaps even some future Olympians! Teams were made up of volunteers, children and parents - we had Team Namibia, England, Scotland, America and Germany all represented in our games which included an egg and spoon race and football dribble.

The Teams get ready.....

And they're off!....

Clever Cubs Update

Andy (who some of you may know as Esmy which is her Bushman name) is working so hard and is just counting the days until she can start first Grade! Her work has improved so much and is always done very neatly.

Anna always has a beautiful bright smile on her face and she always looks forward to working and playing with all the children. Her love towards the children grows each and every day and the children are always so excited to see her and shout her name when they see her coming. We would like to say a big thank you to Anna's Sponsors as, thanks to your kind donations, we are able to buy her some warm clothes for winter so we can ensure she keeps that bright smile on her face!

Bessa, who's turning 3 this year, has come on leaps and bounds since he first joined Clever Cubs. At first he was a little unsure of his new environment, but now absolutely loves coming to school. He's such a sweet boy. He particularly enjoys painting and playing on the swings on our playground.

Betha is working very hard so that she can make it to high school next year. Betha loves being at school and her favourite subject is Afrikaans.

Bettie loves to play the “Big Sister” and assists her brother Chrisjan with some of his school work. Bettie is doing so well in school and she is always happy to go school. Bettie's end of term reports shows that she done another good term's work and this is reflected in her consistent grades.

Chrisjan is one of the best in the class. His work is always neatly done and fully completed and he even enjoys reading now! Chrisjan's end of term report shows that he has worked well  throughout the term, earning consistent B grades and even two A grades for Environmental Study and Religious Education.

Christina can’t wait to join her sister Maria and everyone else on the school bus next year. Christina shows huge interest in her school work and we are so proud of her progress. Also, now that Christina is soon to move to the big school next year, her parents have asked for her to be no longer known by her Bushman name of Dien. A grown-up name for a grown-up girl!

If Dara could walk on her own then we are sure she would be the first one to arrive at school! She is always smiling and just adores playing and crawling in sand. Gorgeous Dara turned 1 year old in May!

Denzel shows so much interest in school. He loves being on the swing and playing with the other children, and he always makes sure that he does not miss his favourite time of the day - lunchtime!

Dina Asmes loves being at school and has made so many friends. Dina worked very hard during the first term and she passed very well. Dina's Easter end of term report shows that she has good athletic ability, gaining a grade B in physical education. However she has not been improving as much in her other subjects and will have to work harder this term to raise her grades.

Dina Pikiro also loves being at school . She has been working very hard and did very well during the first term. Dina's end of term report shows that her grades for last term were  consistent and her teacher says that she has done a good term's work.

Frans can’t wait to move into the Pre-Primary class from the nursery class next year. He loves being at school and is very conscientious as he always makes sure that his work is fully completed before he goes out to play. What a good little scholar!

Jessica is so happy that she is now in the pre-primary class. Our teacher Hilma has been teaching her Afrikaans and she's really picked up the language well with a marked improvement in her vocabularly. She loves to work with her books and particularly likes to colour. She also takes very good care of her little sister Caitriona as well as the other younger children.

Josephina loves being at her new school and has adapted well to living in a hostel nearby. She has made lots of new friends and enjoys her independence. She did so well during the first term and got a glowing report from her teachers. We are so proud of her!

Kanna is always full of joy and laughter. He is keen to learn and always looks forward to going to school each day. Also, now the he is 16 years old he has started to help out on the farm in order to learn skills that will help him in the future. He is now second in command to Simon with herding and caring for the sheep and cows, which he loves!

Just like her sister Jessica, Caitriona is so fond of school. She loves doing colouring-in and also enjoys playing on the swings. The toddler who turns 3 years old on 16th June, is just starting to speak but not only Bushman - in Afrikaans too! She's picked up words such as "look" and "take" and "come". She's a young woman who knows what she wants!

Leffie loves being at his private school, Windhoek Gymnasium, which he attends with Rudie and Marlice's son Zacheo. He shows real interest in and dedication to his school work, and he particularly enjoys sport. Leffie has slotted into the school very easily and has already made lots of new friends.

Lisa always runs to school with such a big smile and can't wait to join the big kids in the pre-primary class next year. She enjoys singing and always joins in loudly when the children start singing their favourite songs. She also loves counting, which she's very good at, and also playing with the dolls.

Maria loves every minute she spends at school and the majority of her work has improved. However, as her end of term report shows, she will have to work harder next term to raise her grades to meet the pass requirements.

Martha is still so keen to work and she loves school. She has started reading English story books and she is doing very well. Her class teacher is always very pleased with her work. Martha's Easter end of term report shows that she has an aptitude for both Afrikaans and English, gaining B grades in all elements of these subjects. Her teacher reported that she has shown diligence and enthusiasm.

Ndeshi loves painting and colouring. She also loves to play with the younger children and the volunteers on the farm. Her big smile is contagious and she always runs up to the volunteers here for hugs and playful swinging around!

Saul is such a big boy now and walks to school all by himself from the Bushman village which is 5 minutes away (or a slightly longer walk for Saul's little legs!). He really enjoys playing with the toy cars in the sand at breaktime.

Willemina loves being at primary school and looks forward to going to school every day. She is doing extremely well with her school work and has made many friends as well. In Willemina's Easter end of term report her teacher remarked that she has a made a genuine effort this term and her results reflect that. Well done Willemina!
